COMPANY OVERVIEW

BuilderGuru Contracting, Inc. and Gardiner & Gardiner Contracting, LLC. (BGC | G&G) is a multi-award-winning General Contractor based out of Millersville, Maryland. We have been providing quality workmanship, supervision, and timely delivery of construction projects for over 90 years. Our combined knowledge has created one of the leading General Contractor companies in the Maryland, D.C., and Virginia markets. BGC | G&G’s experience extends to a broad range of projects including Medical, Educational, Religious, Mixed-Use, Government, Offices and many more.

We execute modern construction with an enduring tradition of quality by working closely with clients, project architects and consultants, legal and financial professionals, building users and all project coordinators to keep projects on schedule and on budget.

History

BGC | G&G
1935

An early history, Francis E. Gardiner, Sr. and William S. Bowling started the firm of Bowling and Gardiner to build high-quality residential projects.

1950s

The firm expanded its expertise to include commercial and industrial projects.

1962

Francis E. “Skip” Gardiner, Jr. joined the company as president.

1960s

The company completed its transition to commercial and institutional construction.

1970

Company re-named Gardiner and Gardiner, Incorporated. G&G folded construction management, restoration of historic buildings and interior design into its contracting services broadening the scope of services.

1980s

G&G expanded its services to include site development. Since then, Gardiner and Gardiner has continued to increase its volume of negotiated and design-build projects as well as competitive bid work.

1990s

The third generation of Gardiners joined the company, as did President Mike Adams.

2003

Ben Harries founded BuilderGuru Contracting, Inc. in Colorado, then formed a partnership with former Shawmut colleague Todd Haynie. The team moves the company to Annapolis, MD and forms a make-shift office in Ben’s garage.

G&G earned an “Excellence in Construction – Site Project of the Year” award for the $40M renovation of Navy-Marine Corps. Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Work on the renovation included clearing and grubbing the existing site, demolishing existing site features (removal of temporary bleachers), lowering the existing field eight feet to facilitate additional sideline seating, creation of memorial plaque wall, constructing the north end zone berm to facilitate new stadium seating, utility relocations: gas, water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and electrical, finish grading and final stabilization.

Late 2003

BuilderGuru hired their first Superintendent, Neil Rains, and moved to their first “official” office space at Gardiner Realty Office Park in Crofton, MD.

2004

BuilderGuru increased their work volume, growing their team of Superintendents to four and relocates to an office space in Millersville, MD.

2006

BuilderGuru continued to grow, tripling their number of superintendents and adding an administrative staff.

G&G completed Severn Savings Bank in Annapolis which features the city’s first green roof. The building also provides generous day lighting and includes an attached parking garage.

2006

G&G completed construction of Horizons On The Bay, a 72-unit, 8-story, waterfront condominium on Chesapeake Beach. Additional features include a 2-story stone fireplace, retail/commercial units, and a fully equipped gym.

2009

G&G completed construction of Penske Truck Leasing Facility using hybrid construction which involves clear spans suitable for a Pre Engineered Metal Building with conventional construction for the office and retail areas.

BGC acquired ownership of Gardiner & Gardiner Contracting, LLC. By this time BGC had worked with G&G for six years and developed strong relations. The combination provided greater capabilities to handle ground-up construction, interior work, and tenant fitouts, as well as the retail, restaurant, healthcare, religious, and office sectors.

2010

BGC completed structural patio expansion and restaurant fit out of the 6,000 sq.ft. Kona Grill in Baltimore. This project earned BGC an Excellence in Construction award from Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc.

2011

Steve Crowder, Senior Project Manager, joined the BGC | G&G team.

2012

BGC | G&G completed Design-Build & Pre Engineered Metal Building Project at Dover Air Force Base. The LEED Silver certified, multi-denominational chapel included; administration offices, classrooms, and multi-purpose gathering rooms.

BGC | G&G completed work on the 14,000 sq.ft. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, including 2 full service bars, a retail merchandise store, outdoor seating, wood detail work, and a décor theme based on the movie Forrest Gump including a 35 foot long mural.

2013

Neil Rains was promoted to Vice President of Operations, as the volume of work at BGC | G&G grew to need consistent oversight of all field personnel and operations. The company completed a Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant at Westfield Annapolis Mall. (Both Ben and Todd worked on multiple Maggiano’s back in their Shawmut days.)

2014

BGC | G&G launch the new website, housing both companies under one roof. Social Communities are also formed and LEED buildings increase, as do awards.

2016

Our team moved Headquarters to Millersville, MD! Offices now located in one of our own designs: Severn Village. A Mixed Use Development Project 25,000 square foot building.

2017

BGC | G&G built multiple Starbucks locations.
Mortons New York (Buffalo & White Plains) and Vida Taco Bar in Baltimore are delivered.
The medical cannabis industry takes off in Maryland. The Community Wellness Center was BuilderGuru's first medicinal cannabis project.

2018

The company advertised Severn Village spaces for rent. BuilderGuru welcomed tenants including: Farmer's Market Association and Outdoor Room Store.
BGC | G&G builds several new locations for Starbucks.
The Arc of the Chesapeake Central Region asked the company to assist with a couple of projects. The relationship started to flourish and BuilderGuru supported The Arc through fundraising events.

2019

The company constructed additional medical cannabis dispensaries. Multiple locations were completed for Grassroots in Maryland, Connecticut, and North Dakota.
The relationship with St. John's College began.
Catch Steak in Manhattan, New York is delivered with impressive architectural features.
A ground up project, Dogwood Acres in Stevensville, Maryland opened it's doors to offer a dream getaway for animals
BGC|G&G began Microtel, the first ICF Hotel Project.

2020

BuilderGuru executed new builds in Eastport Annapolis, Maryland.
First, after an unfortunate fire, the company worked with the Severn House HOA and assisted with a complete gut and remodel of 23 of the units.
Also in Eastport, Forward Brewing, consisted of a complete remodel of an old commercial building to build a new brewery and pub.
BGC | Gardiner and Gardiner welcomes newest tenant to Severn Village, Tribute Health Care.
Roccos Pizzeria and El Toro Bravo, two popular Annapolis restaurants, offer a larger eat-in pizza place and a new mexican location.

2021

Looking back at an exceptional 2021, BuilderGuru Contracting is thrilled to highlight our completion of over thirteen diverse projects. Among them, we brought to life two standout multi-family developments: the Microtel Inn & Suites—a cutting-edge, energy-efficient hotel boasting 79 rooms across five stories—and Bay Village, a 70,000 SF Assisted Living community in Annapolis offering a variety of room options and vibrant indoor-outdoor communal spaces. Here’s to celebrating excellence in every build and crafting spaces that truly inspire!

2022

In 2022, BuilderGuru Contracting proudly delivered the new 4,200-square-foot Rosa Mexicana, previously home to Sugar Factory, and features a large outdoor patio, a bar, an open dining area, and a custom bubble wall. The restaurant also has locations in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This is the second location that BGC has completed for Rosa Mexicano, with the first location being in Pennsylvania. A notable highlight was the renovation of Curaleaf in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a 4000-sf cannabis dispensary to a customer fit-out, including an addition to the building. Curaleaf is a cutting-edge facility that reflects our adaptability and forward-thinking approach. BuilderGuru Contracting's successful year underscores our commitment to excellence across a range of industries and continues to set the bar for innovation and quality.

2023

In 2023, BuilderGuru Contracting achieved remarkable success by completing an impressive array of projects across seven states. We executed a second major renovation for Curaleaf in Illinois, showcasing our expertise in adapting to evolving industry needs. Our commitment to excellence extended to Fresh Greens in Gambrills, MD, Hashtoria in Newark, NJ, Legal Sea Foods in Virginia, Dos Caminos in New York, Heritage Apartments in Texas, and Black Tap in Tennessee. This expansive reach underscores BuilderGuru's versatility and dedication to delivering exceptional results nationwide.
